Sanitary bin options, collections and compliance
Bin sizes and free-on-loan units
We offer different-sized sanitary bins to suit available cubicle space, the number of users and the amount of waste produced. We help you choose the size and number of units for your washrooms, including smaller spaces and busier facilities. Available sizes and models are confirmed with your quote.
Bins are supplied free on loan for the duration of your service agreement. Your quoted collection service includes the units and all required waste paperwork; the bins remain GemCall’s property. Regular servicing helps keep sanitary waste contained and washrooms comfortable for staff, customers and visitors.

Weekly, fortnightly or four-weekly collections
Choose weekly collections for higher-use washrooms, collections every two weeks for moderate use, or every four weeks for lower-use facilities where capacity allows.
Four-weekly means every 28 days, rather than once per calendar month. We agree your schedule around usage, bin capacity and site access, rather than assuming one frequency suits every customer.

The right size and collection frequency help prevent overfilled bins. Tell us about opening hours, busy periods, access requirements and any changes in usage so we can review your arrangements. Collection charges and service terms are set out in your tailored quote.

Sanitary waste legislation and compliance
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 require suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences at workplaces. HSE guidance explains that female workers should have somewhere to dispose of sanitary dressings. Providing suitable sanitary disposal facilities helps employers meet these workplace requirements.

Businesses also have a waste duty of care under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Waste must be stored safely, described accurately and transferred to authorised people.
GemCall supports your responsibilities with suitable bins, agreed collections and waste documentation. Using a collection contractor does not remove your own duty of care. GemCall’s waste carrier registration number is CBDU597414.
All waste paperwork provided

We provide the waste transfer documentation and collection records required for your service, helping you maintain an organised record of how your sanitary waste is managed. For non-hazardous waste, customers must complete and sign the relevant transfer documentation and retain it for at least two years.

Where appropriate, an annual waste transfer note can cover repeated collections for up to one year, provided the relevant parties and waste details remain unchanged. It must be supported by a record of individual collections. Keep the annual note and collection schedule for two years after the final transfer it covers.

What can go in a sanitary bin?

Sanitary bins are for menstrual hygiene waste such as pads, tampons and pantyliners. These items should be placed in the bin rather than flushed down the toilet. Sharps, medicines and waste requiring a separate clinical or hazardous-waste service must not be placed in an ordinary sanitary bin. Tell us about your waste types so the correct service and documentation can be arranged.

We support offices, shops, hospitality venues, gyms, schools, healthcare premises and other organisations. Our Sheffield team serves South Yorkshire and nearby areas across Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
